Job Description:

A postdoctoral fellow position is available immediately in the laboratory of Prof. Yan Zhang, School of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University.
We are seeking highly motivated synthetic organic chemists and medicinal chemists to join our drug design, discovery, and development program. Dr. Zhang’s lab is conducting highly interdisciplinary research focused on pre-clinical development of novel drug candidates, where we apply chemical synthesis, medicinal chemistry, biochemical and biophysical assays, and molecular modeling.
The successful candidate will be involved in design and synthesis of small molecule targeting G-protein coupled receptors mainly. The duties will include design, synthesis, and biological characterization of novel lead compounds to develop drug candidates in treating varies types of diseases, including substance abuse and addiction, cancer, AIDS, and neurological disorders. Applicants should have a PhD degree in synthetic organic chemistry or medicinal chemistry. This position requires extensive experience in designing synthetic routes for novel compounds, solving challenging synthetic problems, and SAR analysis. Applicants also need to be able to apply NMR, IR, HPLC, and MS methods to solve organic chemistry inquiries. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are preferred.
