Thesis subject :  Micromechanical modelling of plasticity and damage of multiphase steels

Research works:     Micromechanical modelling of multiphase steels can be performed based on real or artificial microstructures. A real microstructure was obtained from metallographic observation (SEM, TEM, EBSD images), while an artificial microstructure generator with an enhanced phase assignment algorithm based on material topology optimization has been proposed to investigate the mechanical properties. Based on statistical descriptions of DP steel, artificial microstructures were often generated using geometry primitives (e.g.,spheres, polygons or polyhedra). In this kind of artificial generator, phase assignment process was performed on a modified Voronoï tessellation to achieve the tailored
representative volume element (RVE) with a good convergence. At this stage, a better understanding of the plasticity and damage behaviors during the deformation at micro level becomes crucial to gain proficiency on the use of the micromechanical approaches and homogenization schemes to predict the macro mechanical properties of multiphase steels. This is the major objective of this PhD subject. A significant part of the research works will investigate the plasticity and damage response of each constituent phase and interface under various loading conditions at micro level . Then, the effective constitutive relation of multiphase steel is computed by numerical homogenization methods. The PhD candidate will establish the microstructure/mechanical-property interactions that govern the plasticity and damage behaviors of multiphase steels to predict effective constitutive relation for various steel utilizations. The numerical simulation will be performed using Abaqus and Matlab packages.
