    University of Washington
    Department of Chemistry
    Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow
    Joshua Vaughan Laboratory

Postdoctoral positions are available in the Vaughan Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Washington for highly motivated candidates with a background in biology, chemistry, engineering, or related disciplines.
The Vaughan Laboratory is an interdisciplinary group of researchers that develops new chemical and optical tools for fluorescence microscopy and applies these to biological questions. A new NIH-funded project will be to develop new probes and methods for highly multiplexed probing of mRNA in cells and tissues. Another new, non-federally supported project will be to develop new fluorescence-based assays to read out the epigenetic state of single cells and to use these to study stem cell differentiation. Researchers will gain experience in developing advanced methods for fluorescence microscopy and in using these methods to answer questions in cells and tissues. This includes single-molecule localization microscopy (e.g., STORM/PALM), expansion microscopy, and structured-illumination microscopy.
The University of Washington is a vibrant center of biomedical research spread across departments in the arts and sciences, engineering, and the medical school, and has close interactions with nearby institutions including the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Institute for Systems Biology. It is located three miles north of downtown Seattle, a city with abundant cultural attractions, a booming tech industry, and an unsurpassed variety of nearby outdoor activities.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in biology, chemistry, or a related discipline. Significant experience in one or more of the following techniques/fields are advantageous: fluorescence microscopy; mRNA sequencing; epigenetics; quantitative biology; optics.
Please email the following materials to jcv2@uw.edu: 1) a cover letter describing your interests, a brief summary of past and present research activities/accomplishments (1-2 paragraphs max), and expected date of availability; 2) a curriculum vitae. Also arrange for three letters of reference to be emailed to jcv2@uw.edu.
