PhD Candidate Recruitment at the University of Auckland
A PhD position with full scholarship is available at the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, University of Auckland, New Zealand.
The PhD project is in the field of Phosphors/LEDs, which involves mainly on literature review, experimental design, materials synthesis, characterization, and photoluminescence properties assessment. The PhD student is going to work in a multidisciplinary research environment from inorganic chemistry, materials science, and synchrotron/neutron technologies. The PhD student has also the opportunity to collaborate closely with the experienced research scientists and engineers in the fields of solid-state physics, and computational chemistry.
The university has well equipped laboratories and infrastructure related to synthesis, and microstructure characterization, and software and high-performance supercomputer (NeSI) for first-principles calculations and molecular dynamics simulations. The successful applicant should hold a Bachelor degree (Honor), or Master degree or equivalent in materials science, chemistry, physics, or other relevant areas. Experience with phosphor synthesis, structure characterization or first-principle calculations will be preferred.
o PhD Scholarship:
The scholarship will have a tax-free stipend of up to NZ$27,500 pa, plus domestic tuition fees (ca. NZ$8,000), for three years;
o Eligibility:
Applicants must have bachelor degree in material science, chemistry or related fields, and priority will be given to students who have research experiences in phosphor materials.
o Admission Requirements:
Bachelor (honors) or higher degree in materials science, chemistry, physics, or other relevant fields;
o Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements (if English is not the applicant's mother tongue):
Academic IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 and all bands 6.0 or better; or
Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90 plus a written score of 21; or
Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 575 plus Essay (TWE) of 4.5
(All test results are valid for two years from the date on the test certificate.)
